Great Lake South Dakota Tourism and Vacation Spots

The Great Lakes Region of South Dakota has plenty of outdoor recreation available.

The Missouri River was dammed many years ago to create 4 large reservoirs: Lewis and Clark, Oahe, Sharpe and Francis Case lakes. These are known as South Dakota's Great Lakes. There are over 440 miles of water for you to go windsurfing, sailing, swimming, fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing and more watersports.  The prairie lands and forests in the area offers great outdoor adventures.

In the region are wildlife refuges so you can bird watch or see wildlife. Go camping, hiking, biking and more outdoor activity. Depending on the season, you can hunt for Buffalo, deer, turkey, geese, pheasant and more wildlife.

You can go golfing at one of the many golf courses in the region too.

There's historical landmarks to visit as well. Visit a museum or cultural center. Lewis and Clark's expedition came through this region too.
